The Organization of American States (OAS) and the Government of Peru today signed an agreement to hold the 52nd General Assembly of the hemispheric institution in Lima from October 5 to 7, in a ceremony at the headquarters of the hemispheric institution in Washington, DC.

The Secretary General of the OAS, Luis Almagro, thanked the government of Peru for hosting the Assembly and added, "Together with the government of Peru and the other member states of the Organization, we will continue joining efforts to advance the hemispheric agenda for the well-being and development of the citizens of all the Americas.”

For his part, the Permanent Representative of Peru, Harold Forsyth, said that it would be an honor for his country to host the main annual meeting of the OAS and added that his government "has already appointed a commission that is working 24/7 on the organization of the Assembly.”

It will be the third time that Peru has hosted an OAS General Assembly in Lima. Peru hosted the main annual meeting of the OAS in 1997 and 2010.
