The Organization of American States (OAS) and the Universidad de Oriente (UNIVO) agreed today to hold the 36th Model OAS General Assembly (MOAS) for universities of the hemisphere from September 19 to 21 in San Miguel, El Salvador.
The Secretary General of the OAS, Luis Almagro, highlighted that the Model OAS assemblies, in addition to representing a simulation of the political bodies of the Organization, "have contributed to the formation and empowerment of the youth of the hemisphere, providing them with key tools for their successful social, civic, academic and professional performance and instilling in them the practice of dialogue, leadership, diplomacy, negotiation, equality, inclusion, respect and the pursuit of the common good."
For his part, the Rector of the Universidad de Oriente, Pedro Fausto Arieta, said that holding the Model OAS Assembly in the city of San Miguel "is a dream come true" and stressed that UNIVO will be the venue for the 36th edition of the MOAS and that all universities in the hemisphere are invited to participate.
The MOAS is a program created in 1980 by the OAS to promote democratic values among the youth of the hemisphere through a simulation of the OAS General Assembly. This exercise familiarizes students, professors and academic institutions with the work of the Organization and its member states, as well as its role as the principal political forum of the Americas.
