Germany Offers Support to OAS for the Peace Process in Colombia

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, today received from the Permanent Observer of Germany to the organization, Peter Ammon, the commitment of the European country to contribute 500,000 Euros (approximately $650,000) to the Mission to Support the Peace Process in Colombia (MAPP-OAS).

Secretary General Insulza welcomed the offer and emphasized the importance of the MAPP-OAS, indicating that it is "one of the largest permanent missions of our organization." For his part, Ambassador Ammon mentioned the "friendly feelings" of his country for Colombia.

Present at the meeting were the Permanent Representative of Colombia to the OAS, Ambassador Andrés González Díaz; the Chief of Staff of the Secretary General, Ambassador Hugo de Zela; the OAS Secretary of External Relations, Ambassador Alfonso Quiñonez; the OAS Secretary for Political Affairs, Kevin Casas-Zamora; the Director of the Department of Sustainable Democracy and Special Missions, Christopher Hernandez-Roy; and the Director of the Department of International Affairs, Jorge Sanin.
