Quito Declares OAS Secretary General and Participants in the Meeting of Justice Ministers “Illustrious Guests”

The Metropolitan Council of the City of Quito declared the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, and the senior authorities taking part in the Ninth Meeting of Ministers of Justice or Other Ministers or Attorneys General of the Americas (REMJA IX), which concludes today as “illustrious guests.”

The recognition was presented by the Mayor of the City and the Chair of the Metropolitan Council, Augusto Barrera, during a ceremony Wednesday night at the San Francisco Cathedral, in the historic center of the city.

The OAS Secretary General said “it is my great honor to thank the city of Quito and its Metropolitan Council for this illustrious recognition. I thank the people of Quito, a city that is one of the great jewels of the Americas.” Secretary General Insulza also expressed his recognition of “the efforts made by the government and the people of Ecuador to work toward an inclusive society.”

During the ceremony, at which the Minister of Justice, Human Rights and Worship of Ecuador, Johana Pesántez Benítez was also present, indigenous groups and contemporary folk dance took part.
