The Organization of American States (OAS) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Guatemala today signed an agreement for technical and scientific cooperation and training on the Inter-American system, within the framework of the 51st regular session of the General Assembly of the hemispheric institution.
The Secretary General of the OAS, Luis Almagro, said that the objective of the agreement is to increase knowledge and dissemination of the legal developments of the Inter-American system in Guatemala. "Through the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Guatemala, courses will be given on recent legal developments in Inter-American law, in accordance with a mandate from the 2020 General Assembly," Secretary General Almagro explained.
For his part, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Guatemala, Pedro Brolo, said the agreement "will allow for the joint development of training, development and legal cooperation projects." Foreign Minister Brolo recalled that as a prelude to the agreement, last August and September, the OAS gave a course on the Inter-American System in Guatemala in which 150 people took part.
The courses will carried out by the OAS Department of International Law.
