The new Permanent Representative of Nicaragua to the Organization of American States (OAS), Arturo McFields, today presented his credentials to Secretary General Luis Almagro.

Ambassador McFields highlighted that his country is among the five countries in the world with the highest political participation of women in government positions. "Among the issues that are of interest to us and that we have defended at the OAS are gender empowerment and the political and social rights of women, unequivocal protagonists of our collective history and, even more important, of our personal lives," added the Nicaraguan diplomat.

For his part, Secretary General Almagro recalled that Ambassador McFields knows the OAS for having worked in his country's Mission to the hemispheric organization and emphasized his willingness to dialogue with Nicaragua on all the issues the Organization is working on. “Ambassador McFields, welcome to the House of the Americas, know that the doors of the General Secretariat are open to you to work together,” said the OAS Secretary General.

Ambassador McFields is the first Afro-descendant to represent Nicaragua at the OAS. "It is a great honor for me as a Nicaraguan and Afro-descendant," he added.
