The new Permanent Representative of Chile to the Organization of American States (OAS), Issa Kort Garriga, today presented his credentials to OAS Secretary General Luis Almagro in a virtual ceremony.
During the ceremony, Ambassador Kort Garriga said: "Chile, along with other countries, has declared and demonstrated in deeds its commitment to multilateralism. Collective challenges must be addressed collectively. Climate change, security, development, the promotion and protection of human rights and the strengthening of democracy require precisely that they be addressed collectively. Therein lies the importance of the OAS. Indeed, this Organization is the hemisphere's main political forum. It is the forum that allows us to dialogue and work together on a daily basis to improve the living conditions of our peoples," he added.
For his part, the Secretary General of the OAS, Luis Almagro, said, "Chile is a country that has honored the OAS with its presence and efficient diplomatic activity. The defense of democracy, human rights, hemispheric security and integral development, which are our basic pillars, are also part of the agenda of your delegation," and added "welcome to the House of the Americas."
Ambassador Kort Garriga has been a professor of contemporary history, and has been Secretary General of his political party and deputy of the Republic of Chile for three terms.
