IACHR will Hold a Press Conference in San Antonio, Texas, U.S.

On September 29, the Commission started a three day visit to the Southern border of the United States with the purpose of monitoring the human rights situation of unaccompanied children and families who have crossed the border and with respect to their apprehension, immigration detention over long periods of time, immigration proceedings, and deportations and removals. In particular, the delegation will analyze the rights to: life, liberty, personal security; family life and protection of the family unit; protection of the child; protection from arbitrary arrest; fair trial and due process of law; equality before law; seek and receive asylum; and the principle of non-refoulement and the right to be free from persecution or torture. The visit will conclude on Thursday, October 2.

The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights will hold a press conference on Thursday October 2, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. to communicate its preliminary observations on the situation of child migrants and refugees. The Second Vice Chair Felipe González and Commissioner Rosa María Ortiz will participate in this conference, which will be held in San Antonio, Texas.
