IACHR Announces Schedule for its 153rd Session

Washington, D.C.—The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) is announcing the program for its 153rd regular session, which will take place from October 23 to November 7, 2014. The hearings will be held on October 27, 28, 30 and 31, and will take place in the General Secretariat Building of the Organization of American States (OAS), located at 1889 F Street NW, Washington, D.C.

The IACHR will webcast all public hearings live on its website. This page has important information for the public and members of the media who plan to attend the hearings or follow them online.

A principal, autonomous body of the Organization of American States (OAS), the IACHR derives its mandate from the OAS Charter and the American Convention on Human Rights. The Inter-American Commission has a mandate to promote respect for human rights in the region and acts as a consultative body to the OAS in this area. The Commission is composed of seven independent members who are elected in an individual capacity by the OAS General Assembly and who do not represent their countries of origin or residence.
