IACHR receives requests for hearings and working meetings for the 153rd Period of Sessions

July 31, 2014

Washington, D.C. - Starting today, the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights will receive requests for hearings and working meetings for the 153rd Period of Sessions, which will take place October 23 to November 7, 2014, at its headquarters in Washington, D.C. The hearings will be held on October 27, 28, 30 and 31, and the working meetings on October 29.

The requests for hearings and working meetings must be made through the new digital automatized system created by the IACHR. The system is open starting today, July 31, until and including August 13. This system is the only means of making such requests, and it is available in the four OAS official languages:

A principal, autonomous body of the Organization of American States (OAS), the IACHR derives its mandate from the OAS Charter and the American Convention on Human Rights. The Inter-American Commission has a mandate to promote respect for human rights in the region and acts as a consultative body to the OAS in this area. The Commission is composed of seven independent members who are elected in an individual capacity by the OAS General Assembly and who do not represent their countries of origin or residence.
