Washington, D.C.- The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) will hold its 191st Ordinary Period of Sessions from November 4 to 15. The public hearings will be held from November 11 to 15 in person in Washington, D.C.
As of July 30, 2024, requests for public hearings from all member States of the Organization of American States (OAS) will be received through the online request system in the organization's four official languages: Spanish, English, Portuguese, and French. The system will be open until August 20 at 11:59 p.m. (EST) Washington, D.C. time.
Decisions on approved requests will be announced up to one month before the hearings, and the schedule of hearings will be published at www.IACHR.org up to ten days before the beginning of the 191st Period of Sessions.
The IACHR is a principal and autonomous organ of the Organization of American States (OAS), whose mandate derives from the OAS Charter and the American Convention on Human Rights. The Inter-American Commission is mandated to promote the observance and defense of human rights in the region and acts as an advisory body to the OAS in this area. The IACHR is made up of seven independent members who are elected by the OAS General Assembly in their personal capacity, and do not represent their countries of origin or residence.
