Competition Rules

• Who can participate?
  All young people between the ages of 16 and 25, who are within the jurisdiction of the 35 OAS Member States, may participate.

• What theme should be incorporated into the work?
  The artistic representation will have to be related to any of the principles and/or values that are reflected in one or more of the articles contained in the Inter-American Democratic Charter.
• What artistic realm can be used?
  To compete, the artistic work can be in the form of graphic work or photography. In each of the cases, a brief description of the relationship-linking of the work with the principles and values of the Inter-American Democratic Charter must be attached to the work.
• What does the award consist of?
  First, second, and third place in each artistic realms and subcategories will receive a diploma signed by the OAS Secretary General. Additionally, a printed replica of the work will be put on display in the entrance hall of the Simón Bolívar Room in the OAS Main Building, where it will be exhibited during the days of the celebration of the Inter-American Democratic Charter, from September 6-11, 2021.
• Each participant may only submit one work of art to the contest.
• The winning artworks (first, second, and third place) will remain the property of the GS/OAS, which reserves all rights over them and their possible publication, citing their author.
• Participants must send:
  • Filled out and signed Registration Form (it can be found on the OAS website: www.oas.org/artcontestform). Without the Registration Form, the submitted work cannot be taken into account.
  • Resume/curriculum vitae of the author.
  • The work. If participating in the photography category, send a high-resolution photograph (at least 1,500 x 1,500 pixels per inch). In case of participating in the graphic design category, send the work in jpg or pdf, in a minimum resolution of 1,500 x 1,500 pixels per inch.
  • All these materials must be sent in a single e-mail to the following address: [email protected].
• The timeline for receiving art submissions will begin on Monday, June 28, and will close on Friday, September 3, at 11:59 pm United States Eastern Time.
• In the event that there are underage participants, participants must fill out the legal guardian authorization section found in the registration form.
• The jury is made up of 5 people: the Secretary for Strengthening Democracy, the Chief of Special Missions of the OAS, the person in charge of the Department of Sustainable Democracy and Special Missions, the Director of the OAS Press Department, and the person in charge of the Museum of the Americas.
• The winners of the two categories (first, second, and third place) will be notified on Tuesday, August 31 and the respective recognitions will be sent to them.
• The jury's decisions are final.
• Suspension and Cancellation: The GS/OAS reserves the right to suspend, cancel, or modify the contest at any time.
• Privileges and Immunities: None of the provisions of these rules constitutes an express or tacit waiver of the privileges and immunities enjoyed by the OAS, the GS/OAS, its bodies, its personnel, and its property and assets.
• Modifications to the rules: The GS/OAS reserves the right to modify these rules at any time and the power to regulate all unforeseen cases under the context of these rules.
• The simple submission of artwork to this call implies acceptance of these rules.
