About the Working Group

The Permanent Council Working Group on Nicaragua was established by resolution CP/RES. 1109 (2175/18) rev. 1, which the Permanent Council adopted at its special meeting on August 2, 2018, pursuant to the provisions of Article 12 of the Rules of Procedure of the Permanent Council. Its mandate is to contribute to the search for peaceful and sustainable solutions to the evolving situation in Nicaragua, including through consultations with the Government of Nicaragua.

In keeping with the provisions in operative paragraph 2 of resolution CP/RES. 1109 (2175/18) rev. 1, the Working Group on Nicaragua will contribute to the process of national dialogue in Nicaragua, including support, accompaniment, and verification measures in coordination with ongoing efforts of the OAS, SICA, and other regional and international actors.

Based on the provisions contained in operative paragraph 3 of resolution CP/RES. 1109 (2175/18) rev. 1, the Permanent Council Working Group on Nicaragua will be composed of one representative per regional group and other member states committed to the objectives of resolution CP/RES. 1108 (2172/18) rev. 1 adopted on July 18, 2018, to be designated by the Chair of the Permanent Council in consultation with the coordinators of regional groups, no later than August 10, and in full accordance with the provisions contained in Article 25 of the Rules of Procedure of the Permanent Council.

The Permanent Council Working Group on Nicaragua comprises 12 member states: Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guyana, Mexico, Panama, Peru, and United States (CP/INF.8049/18)
