The CIM seeks to strengthen the leadership and substantive representation of women in politics, through the Inter-American Program to Strengthen Democracy and Women's Leadership . Launched in 2020, the Program will provide training and tools with to women, from a gender perspective, to promote better performance in electoral campaigns, through the Courses for Electoral Candidates; and in the exercise of government positions, with the launch of an academic initiative on leadership and public policies.

Course for Electoral Candidates
The Course for Women Electoral Candidates is a joint initiative of the
Inter-American Commission of Women (CIM/OAS) and the OAS School of
Government, supported by the Agency for International Cooperation of the
Government of Spain and the Government of Italy. The course seeks to
strengthen the political leadership of women candidates through different
tools. This edition is aimed at women candidates for the municipal and
regional elections of Peru 2022 and is carried out together with the
National Jury of Elections (JNE) in alliance with other organizations based
in the country.
During the 8th Summit of the Americas (2018), the States of the region established the Inter-American Task Force on Leadership of Women , with a view to positioning the Americas as the leading region in achieving SDG 5.5, helping to accelerate the commitment and actions of all relevant sectors towards greater leadership of women in all areas of power. and decision-making.
The Task Force is made up of key inter-American and international institutions that have recognized experience and programming in areas related to women's leadership, and the CIM acts as its Technical Secretariat.
