International Year of Forests, 2011.
 

Under the slogan "Celebrating the International Year of Forests: Sustainable Forest Management for the People of the Americas” the Department of  Sustainable Development of the OAS is pleased to join the United Nations (UN) to increase awareness about the importance of forests. Second Inter-American Meeting of Ministers and High-Level Authorities on Sustainable Development..
Following-up on a mandate from the Heads of State and Government of the Americas from the Fifth Summit of the Americas, on January 26th member States of the Organization of American States (OAS) officially Convened the Second Inter-American Meeting of Ministers and High Level Authorities on Sustainable Development. OAS-DSD Launched a Book on Sustainable Development in the Caribbean
Titled, “Sustainable Development in the Caribbean, Contemporary Issues, Challenges and Opportunities” seeks to gather the diverse initiatives in this area to increase the knowledge base and literature in this field and foster the exchange of information and experiences. On-line bookstore
The Department of Sustainable Development (DSD) supports OAS member States in the design and implementation of policies, programs and projects oriented to integrate environmental priorities with poverty alleviation, and socio-economic development goals. Translating sustainable development and environmental protection goals into concrete actions, DSD supports the execution of multiple-country projects in such diverse areas as integrated water management, Energy and Climate Change Mitigation, Risk Management and Adaptation to climate change, biological diversity and environmental law and policy.
