CONVOCATION OF A MEETING OF CONSULTATION OF MINISTERS OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS
TO CONSIDER THE TOPIC “SOVEREIGN DEBT RESTRUCTURING: THE CASE OF
ARGENTINA AND ITS SYSTEMIC CONSEQUENCES”
(Adopted by the Permanent Council at its
Special meeting held on June 30,
2014)
THE PERMANENT COUNCIL OF THE ORGANIZATION OF
AMERICAN STATES,
CONSIDERING the request submitted by the Government of the Republic of
Argentina to the Permanent Council to convene a meeting of consultation
of ministers of foreign affairs under the OAS Charter,
RESOLVES:
To convene a meeting of consultation of ministers of foreign affairs at
the Headquarters of the Organization of American States in Washington,
D.C., at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 3, 2014, in order to:
1. Consider the topic “Sovereign Debt Restructuring: The Case of
Argentina and Its Systemic Consequences,” on which reports will be
presented by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Worship of Argentina,
Héctor Timerman, and the Minister of Economy and Finance of Argentina,
Axel Kicillof
[1]. The United States would have
abstained if a formal vote had been taken on this resolution which has
now been approved by acclamation. We would like to underscore that this
is an issue that is being addressed by our judicial system, which is an
independent branch of government in the United States and would caution
Council members not to be seen as interfering in a domestic court
proceeding.
