The meeting will commence with a Conferenceby the Vice-President of Ecuador , Lenin Moreno Garcés. The Director of the Office of International Law of the OAS/GS, Dante Negro, will speak on the subject: Treaties and Agreements of the Rights as Legal Instruments for Action. IV OAS Private Sector Forum

Location: Marriott Hotel, Panama City, Panama

Dates: May 31 – June 3, 2007

 

The OAS in conjunction with the Government of Panama and business leaders are conducting a forum thematically titled, "Energy for the  Development of the Americas: The Role of the Public-Private Alliances."  Those participating in the forum include: the President of Panama, Martin Torrijos, Secretary   General  of the OAS, José Miguel Insulza, and the President of the Inter-American Commission of Ethanol, Roberto Rodriguez.  The recommendations will be discussed by the Member States of the OAS on Sunday, June 3, 2007.

 



Meeting of the Ministers of Education of the Western Hemisphere 
Location: Hotel Riande El Continental, Panama City, Panama  
Dates: May 31, 2007 – June 2, 2007

The Ministers of Education of the Americas will be convening in Panama in order to debate the topic: Education and Human Rights.  The meeting is organized by the Panamanian Ministry of Education (MEDUCA) and  The Inter-American Institute of Human Rights.  The Secretary General of the OAS, José Miguel Insulza will open the meeting. Award Ceremony of  The Talent and Innovation Competition of the Americas 
Location: Panama City, Panama 
Dates: May 31, 2007 – June 1, 2007

The Young Americas Business Trust (YABT), a non-profit organization associated to the OAS and committed to the development of youth entrepreneurship, will hold the finals of the Talent and Innovation Competition of the Americas (TIC Americas). The event will open May 31st with the awarding of the finalists  (TIC Americas Finals)  and will end June 1st with an international conference titled "Innovation and Entrepreneurship: A North-South/ East-West Dialogue" . Prizes will be awarded in the following categories:   Business Process, Creative Design, Culture and Traditions, E-business, Spirit of Entrepreneurship, New Markets, and Social Entrepreneurship, plus one prize for an international team outside the Americas.

 



International Seminar: "The Electoral Cycle 2005 – 2006 in the Americas :  An Overview by the OAS General Secretariat 
Location: Hotel Sheraton, Panama City, Panama

Date: June 2, 2007
 

The purpose of this seminar is to prompt debate on OAS  experiences in the elections held in 2005-2006 and on lessons learned during  electoral observation missions regarding electoral systems and processes in the region.   Secretary General José Miguel Insulza will deliver a keynote presentation.  A specific amount of time has been set aside for a question and answer session for the public. Meeting of the Ministers of Health of the Western Hemisphere

The Ministers of Health of the Americas will be in Panama at the beginning of June, in response to an invitation of the Minister of Health of Panama, Dr. Camilo Alleyne Marshall.   The meeting will mainly discuss the theme: "Health Agenda for the Americas."

 



DIALOGUE OF THE HEADS OF DELEGATION WITH CIVIL SOCIETY REPRESENTATIVES

The purpose of the dialogue among the Ministers of Foreign Affairs or the Heads of Delegation of the OAS Member States, the OAS Secretary General and civil society representatives is to exchange experiences and generate recommendations for consideration by the Heads of the Delegations in their ongoing deliberations at the XXXVII General Assembly.
