United Nations Environmental Program - UNEP -GEF Implementing Agency

The United Nations Environmental Programme acts as the GEF implementing agency for the São Francisco Basin Project. The actions undertaken in the project are consistent with the GEF principle of linking project elements with major cross-cutting issues, and with the UNEP Environmentally sound management Of Inland Waters (ENINWA) integrated watershed management planning process and related regional seas programme.

UNEP through the Division for Environmental Assessment and Early Warning/Environmental Science and Research Cluster DEAEW, will be responsible for overall project supervision to ensure consistency with GEF and UNEP polices and procedures and will provide guidance on linkages with related UNEP and GEF funded activities.
