SUMMIT AND HEMISPHERIC PROJECTS
Representatives from the Ministries of Education started drafting the three Hemispheric Projects after the commitments reached at the Preparatory Meeting for the III Meeting of Ministers of Education. These Hemispheric Projects are: 1. Development of policies and strategies for school failure prevention. Each project was organized under hemispheric and sub-regional coordinating countries for the drafting of the proposal and the implementation processes. The sub-regional coordinators would bring into the design the specific needs of each region of the Continent. The proposals were presented to the Multilateral Special Fund of the Inter-American Council for Integral Development (FEMCIDI) of the OAS in search of financing resources. At the same time, and through the resolution on the Use of excess resources of the Reserve Subfund of the Regular Fund allocated to the sectoral area of Education of CIDI for the implementation of Summit of the Americas Mandates, the delegations present at the Ministerial Meeting agreed on the distribution of resources among the three Hemispheric Projects and the two Summit Projects. With regards to the Summit Projects, Chile transferred its coordination of the Regional Education Indicators Project (PRIE) to Mexico, and Brazil will continue coordinating the Hemispheric Evaluation Forum in Education. The Ministers of Education gave their support for the use of information and communications technologies as a transversal theme on the educations priorities described. In that regards, the offer made by Mexico for the free use of the satellite signal EDUSAT will be of great importance, as well as the inaugurated Channel of the Americas.
