WELCOME

Welcome to the website of the High Level Meeting on Poverty, Equity and Social Inclusión of the Organization of American States, which was held in Isla de Margarita, Venezuela, October 8-10, 2003.

This meeting responds to an OAS General Assembly mandate within the framework of the Inter-American Council for Integral Development, CIDI, to address the imminent need for developing strategies to face the challenges of poverty and inequalities in our hemisphere.

Delegations from 32 member states participated in the meeting. Among them, 8 national ministers of social development and 14 permanent representatives to the OAS. There were 18 special guests present, including 9 directors of social investment funds; as well as representatives from 10 international organizations.

The delegations adopted the "Declaration of Margarita. Recommendations of the High Level Meeting on Poverty, Equity and Social Inclusion" after two days of intense work and dialogue on the most urgent needs and challenges of the hemisphere.

This virtual space aims to provide pertinent information of this High Level Meeting, including the mandates that support it, the agenda, official documents of the meeting and information on the presentations provided.
