Culture
The protection and development of cultural values in the region represents a fundamental tool in the fight against poverty and can act as a catalyst for development. Historically, cultural preservation and enrichment have constituted a priority for countries seeking to foster cooperation. In the past, the Inter-American Cultural Program has encouraged hemispheric dialogue on the problems facing countries in their pursuit of cultural development.
Action taken thus far has contributed to the preservation of a collective historical and cultural memory in many countries has helped with the empowerment of human capital in the cultural field, and has recognized the unique character of indigenous cultures. The III Summit of the Americas thusly reaffirmed the priorities that help orient horizontal cooperation and that encourage respect for and value of the cultural diversity of the peoples of the hemisphere.
