The OAS supports the Inter-American political and technical dialogue for tourism development as well as cooperation in multinational projects and activities with emphasis on the development of small tourism enterprise, safety and security, and sound environmental management, seeking to contribute to greater competitiveness in the international markets for the Latin America and Caribbean  tourism destinations.

The Tourism and Small Enterprise Section:

Provides support to member states in the area of tourism services as they relate to trade, competitiveness and sustainable development.
Provides support to other areas of the General Secretariat engaged in activities related to tourism.
Formulates, evaluates, and executes technical cooperation projects in the area of tourism and sustainable growth and development.
Facilitates the exchange of information and promotes public/private sector cooperation in the area of tourism as it relates to trade.
Conducts research and analysis of the tourism sector and its relationship with trade.
Provides support to the Inter-American Tourism Congress, the main forum for formulating hemispheric tourism policy.
Collaborates with international, regional and sub-regional bodies as well as non-governmental organizations and the private sector in the area of tourism.
Identifies and promotes best practices in the use of information and communication technologies and Internet based resources to enhance the competitive performance of small and medium enterprises.
