Belize and Guatemala sign Protocol to Special Agreement

On May 25, 2015, the Foreign Ministers of Belize and Guatemala, Wilfred Elrington and Carlos Raúl Morales, signed a Protocol to the 2008 Special Agreement, which will allow the governments of both countries to separately hold national referenda with a view to submitting their territorial dispute to the International Court of Justice for final settlement. Secretary General José Miguel Insulza participated as a witness of honor in the ceremony that also included members of the diplomatic corps, government officials, NGOs, representatives of other international organizations and local and international media.
