Nicaragua Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources - MARENA

The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources of Nicaragua (MARENA) is the national entity responsible for the protection of the environment, use and management of natural resources, and coordination and management of national environmental policies, to promote the sustainable use of national resources. Its main responsibilities are directed towards control, structure and regulation of environmental and natural resources management. Its vision, mission and organization are defined to transfer and share responsibilities with civil society and continuously improve its technical, administrative and financial management capabilities.

MARENA is the institution responsible for the execution of the SJRB project in Nicaragua. The Nicaraguan Technical Unit is located in this Ministry. The SRJB project is coordinated, within the MARENA, by the General Directorate of Biodiversity and Natural Resources.
