Under this MOU, the SRU will undertake the following activities:
- Recruit an expert in volcanic hazards to carry out the field work and
hazard mapping work.
- Undertake approximately three months field work on both St. Kitts and
Nevis, to correlate and map the volcanic deposits of past eruptions and
collect charcoal and lava samples for age dating. The travel and
subsistence costs for this work will be covered by funds made available
under this MOU. Honorarium for this work will be provided by the SRU from
other funds.
- Undertake laboratory analysis of field specimens, as needed for the
volcanic hazard assessment. Laboratory costs will be covered by funds made
available under this MOU, as described in Annex 2.
- Produce maps of the effects of past volcanic activity on St. Kitts and
Nevis and maps of the vulnerability to the effects of future volcanic
activity on each island. Maps are to be developed in hardcopy and digital
formats.
Sharing and exchange of the products developed by this activity is supported
and encouraged by the SRU and the GS/OAS.
