What to do to safeguard your house

For board houses not well fastened to foundations, bring indoors a water container or other heavy objects to hold house down

   

Trim branches of trees that might fall. This will reduce the pressure on the tree from the wind
   

Board up windows to prevent flying objects breaking them and the damage this can lead to

 

If you have more time………..

Add extra nails and a cover strip to overhangs particularly at gable ends
   

Put in more nails or screws along the edge of the roof to stop lifting

   

Fit one hurricane strap or clip on each rafter if they are missing
   

Fit Collar Ties between every other pair of rafters to hold together the two sides of the roof
