Wilkferg Vanegas is an Environmental Engineer. He is working as a specialist for the Risk Management and Adaptation to Climate Change Section in the DSD, and
in the Technical Secretariat of the Inter-American Network for Disaster Mitigation (RIMD).
Prior to joining the OAS in January 2008, Wilkferg worked for the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB) in Colombia on the Bogotá River Sanitation Program. During the 2007 flood in the Mojana region of Colombia, Wilkferg was chosen to be the national delegate for the Red Cross, in coordination with the United Nations and OXFAM Intermont in responding to the emergency. In the same year and in a similar capacity, Wilkferg was an active participant in the coordination and creation of the National Advisory Committee on Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (CASH), which was integrated by a number of UN agencies as well as institutions of the National Directorate for Disaster Prevention and Response in Colombia.
