Workshop on Integrated Water Resource Management... The Department of Sustainable Development of the Organization of American States (DSD), in collaboration with the Government of Ecuador, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (General Directorate of Human Rights, Social and Environmental Affairs) and the Ministry of the Environment, organized the Preparatory Workshop on Integrated Water Resources Management. It was held in Quito, Ecuador, June 19-20, 2006. This workshop was the third of a series of workshops organized by the DSD as part of the preparatory process for the First InterAmerican Meeting of Ministers and High-Level Authorities on Sustainable Development that will take place in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia, December 4-5, 2006. During the meeting, experts identified policy guidelines, strategies, and priority actions related to integrated water resources management to be considered by Ministers and High-Level Authorities during their December 2006 meeting. The discussion highlighted issues related to water governance, the attainment of the Millennium Development Goals on water supply and sanitation; and climate change and its potential effects on water resources, among others topics. The Workshop also identified specific cooperation opportunities to support the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) related to water resources, following up the global agreements reached during the IV World Water Forum held in Mexico in March 2006.
