Natural hazards affect the transportation infrastructure of the trade corridors in the region of the MERCOSUR. The Unit for Sustainable Development and Environment is coordinating the Regional Project for Natural Hazard Vulnerability Reduction in Trade Corridors of the MERCOSUR. The objective of the project is to analyze the vulnerability of the road system and propose activities to ensure that it becomes a catalyst for integrated sustainable development. Project activities have been started by the governments of Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay to identify vulnerability and prepare investment projects at the pre feasibility level in order to lower transportation costs in the corridors of MERCOSUR. (1997-1998). |
