Dear civil society representative,
On behalf of the General Secretariat of the Organization of American States (OAS), the Summits of the Americas Secretariat would like to inform you that the OAS will undertake a week-long process of civil society participation entitled Partnering with Civil Society on March 10-14, 2008. All meetings will be held at OAS Headquarters in Washington, D.C.
Partnering with Civil Society will include the following events and activities:
The Hemispheric Forum with Civil Society: Youth and Democratic Values will consist of plenary sessions and thematic roundtables on the principal themes of the inter-American agenda as they relate to youth and the promotion of democratic values. The recommendations generated in the Hemispheric Forum will be presented to the OAS Member States in efforts to prepare for the Dialogue between the Heads of Delegation of the OAS Member States and representatives of civil society that will take place in the framework of the XXXVIII OAS General Assembly in Medellín, Colombia in June 2008.
The OAS will finance the participation of a determined number of civil society organizations with the purpose of assuring ample thematic and regional representation in Partnering with Civil Society. This financing will include a roundtrip airfare of one representative from the selected organization between the city of the organization’s headquarters and Washington, DC. Travel award recipients will also receive a sum corresponding to costs of accommodation and meals.
Organizations that wish to be considered by the Selection Committee to receive a travel award must fill out the Travel Award Application available on the OAS civil society website (www.civil-society.oas.org). Travel award applications must be received no later than February 14, 2008. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Preference will be given to civil society organizations that are part of the OAS Registry of Civil Society Organizations that work in the thematic areas of the meeting.
Agendas and other documents and information regarding the meetings planned in the framework of Partnering with Civil Society are forthcoming and will be distributed by the Summits Secretariat by email and through the Civil Society Website.

En nombre de la Secretaría General de la Organización de los Estados Americanos (OEA), la Secretaría de Cumbres de las Américas tiene el agrado de informarle que la OEA prepara una semana de participación con la sociedad civil titulada Cooperando con la Sociedad Civil del 10 al 14 de marzo de 2008. Todas las reuniones se llevarán a cabo en la sede de la OEA en Washington, D.C.
Cooperando con la Sociedad Civil incluirá los siguientes eventos y actividades:
El Foro Hemisférico con la Sociedad Civil: La Juventud y los Valores Democráticos consistirá en sesiones plenarias y mesas redondas temáticas sobre los temas principales de la agenda Interamericana y su relación con la juventud y la promoción de los valores democráticos. Las recomendaciones que se generen del Foro Hemisférico serán presentadas a los Estados Miembros de la OEA con miras a la preparación del Diálogo entre los Jefes de Delegación de los Estados Miembros y los representantes de la sociedad civil en el marco de la XXXVIII Asamblea General de la OEA en Medellín, Colombia, en junio de 2008.
La OEA financiará la participación de un número determinado de organizaciones de la sociedad civil con el fin de asegurar la más amplia representación temática y regional en Cooperando con la Sociedad Civil. Dicha financiación incluirá un tiquete aéreo de ida y regreso de un representante de la organización seleccionada desde la ciudad sede de su organización a Washington, DC. Los beneficiarios también recibirán acomodación y comida.
Las organizaciones deseando ser consideradas por el Comité de Selección para recibir financiación deben diligenciar el formulario de solicitud para financiación de viaje disponible en la página Web de la sociedad civil de la OEA (www.civil-society.oas.org) antes del 14 de febrero de 2008. Las solicitudes incompletas no serán consideradas. El Comité de Selección dará preferencia a las organizaciones de la sociedad civil que hacen parte del Registro de OSC de la OEA que trabajen en los temas de las reuniones.
Los órdenes del día y otros documentos e información relativo a las reuniones previstas en el marco de Cooperando con la Sociedad Civil serán distribuidas por la Secretaría de Cumbres en cuanto estén disponibles vía correo electrónico y a través de la página Web.
