EXECUTIVE ORDER

In the exercise of his authority pursuant to Article 119 of the Charter of the Organization, and Article 4 of the General Standards to Govern the Operations of the General Secretariat, and CONSIDERING: That, by resolution AG/RES. 415 (IX-O/79), the General Assembly instructed the Permanent Council to study, in consultation with the Secretary General, the desirability of establishing a Secretariat for Legal Affairs to replace and succeed the present Bureau of Legal Affairs and, if desirable, to authorize the establishment of that Secretariat, and That, by resolution CP/RES. 309 (435/80), of September 25, 1980, the Permanent Council authorized the Secretary General to raise the level of the Bureau of Legal Affairs to that of Secretariat for Legal Affairs, RESOLVES: First: To establish the Secretariat for Legal Affairs of the General Secretariat of the Organization as the replacement of and successor to the present Bureau of Legal Affairs which is to be governed, where applicable, by Executive Order No. 79-2 of January 31, 1979; and Second: That this executive order shall take effect on the date it is signed.
