ADMINISTRATIVE MEMORANDUM NO. 71
SUBJECT: COMPENSATION FOR LOSS OF OR DAMAGE TO PERSONAL EFFECTS-  STAFF RULE 107.5

 

I. BACKGROUND

Under Staff Rule 107.5 staff members are entitled, within the limits and under the terms and conditions indicated, to reasonable compensation in the event of loss of or damage to their personal effects determined to be directly attributable to the performance of official duties on behalf of the Organization of American States.

II. PURPOSE

The purpose of this Administrative Memorandum is to detail what reimbursements are deemed reasonable under that Rule and will be considered by the General Secretariat when evaluating claims for compensation for loss of or damage to personal effects.

III. LIMITS

1. Compensation in each case shall be: a) made only for personal effects related to official business; b) limited to the maximum indicated; and c) made for only one of each item listed below:

a. Motor vehicles (and all accessories) 5,000

b. Camera (and all accessories), record
    player, or tape recorder 350

c. Typewriter 175

d. Items not listed (subject to case-by-case
    evaluation) 750

2. No sum in excess of $1,000 shall be paid to any one claimant in respect to any one incident, except in the case of loss of or damage to a motor vehicle.

3. No compensation shall be paid for loss of or injury to animals, for loss of or damage to motorcycles, boats, motors of all types, jewelry, works of art, cash, financial instruments, securities, tickets, documents, or any article which the General Secretariat does not consider to have been reasonably required by the staff member while performing official duties.

IV. REVOCATION OR AMENDMENT

This Administrative Memorandum supersedes all procedures and practices to the contrary.

V. EFFECT

This Administrative Memorandum shall take effect on the date on which it is signed.
