12 de agosto, 2002La OEA Efectuara Conferencia Nacional Anticorrupción en Republica Dominicana
La ciudad de Santo Domingo, capital de la República Dominicana, será sede el día 30 de agosto de una Conferencia Nacional sobre “La Adecuación de la Legislación Penal Dominicana a la Convención Interamericana contra la Corrupción”, que tendrá lugar en el Hotel V Centenario, a partir de las 8:30 a.m.
La reunión cuenta con la colaboración del Departamento de Prevención de la Corrupción Administrativa, de la Procuraduría General de la República; la Fundación Institucionalidad y Justicia (FINJUS); y la Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra.
La Conferencia Nacional forma parte de una iniciativa hemisférica de la Organización de los Estados Americanos (OEA), en cumplimiento de los mandatos de las Cumbres de las Américas y de la Asamblea General de la Organización, con el fin de promover la adecuación de la legislación penal nacional a las disposiciones de dicha Convención y facilitar así su aplicación y el cumplimiento de sus propósitos.
Durante las deliberaciones, los participantes examinarán un estudio preparado especialmente para la reunión y una propuesta de legislación que servirán de base a las discusiones de la Conferencia.
El proyecto de cooperación para la ratificación e implementación de la Convención continúa los trabajos que la Secretaría General de la OEA, a través de la Subsecretaría de Asuntos Jurídicos, lleva adelante desde 1997 para implementar y facilitar la efectiva aplicación de este tratado en las Américas.
La Convención Interamericana contra La Corrupción fue adoptada en Caracas, Venezuela, en marzo de 1996 y entró en vigor un año después. Hasta la fecha ha sido ratificada por 27 de los 34 Estados miembros.

The OAS holds a National Anti-Corruption Conference in the Dominican Republic
A National Conference on “The Adjustment of the Dominican Criminal Legislation to the Inter-American Convention against Corruption” will take place in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, on August 30, 2002,
The meeting is being organized in collaboration with the Department of Prevention of Administrative Corruption of the Attorney General Office; the Institutional and Justice Foundation (FINJUS); and the Pontifical Catholic University.
This National Conference is part of a hemispheric initiative of the Organization of American States (OAS), in compliance with the mandates of the Summit of the Americas and of the OAS General Assembly aimed at promoting the adjustment of national criminal legislation to the provisions of the Convention and facilitate, as well, its application and implementation.
Participants will examine a report prepared specifically for the meeting, and review draft legislation that will serve as a foundation for the discussions of the Conference.
The cooperative initiative for the ratification and implementation of the Convention falls within the scope of the program the Secretariat for Legal Affairs of the OAS launched in 1997 to implement and facilitate the effective application of this treaty in the Americas.
The Inter-American Convention against Corruption was adopted in Caracas, Venezuela, in March 1996 and entered into force a year later. To date it has been ratified by 27 out of the 34 active Member States.
