ECUADOR TO RECEIVE ON-SITE VISIT OF THE OAS ANTICORRUPTION MECHANISM

The Republic of Ecuador joined the 29 State Parties to the OAS Anticorruption Mechanism (MESICIC), who gave their consent to receive on-site visits that this Mechanism has developed as part of the review process for the Fourth Round of Review.

On Friday September 14, as part of its Twentieth Meeting, the Committee of Experts of the MESICIC welcomed Ecuador’s willingness to receive, in the second half of 2013, the representatives of Chile and Venezuela as members of the review subgroup as well as the OAS General Secretariat, through the Department of Legal Cooperation of the Secretariat for Legal Affairs, in its capacity as the Technical Secretariat of the MESICIC, to evaluate, on-site, the principal anti-corruption oversight bodies.

On-site visits are an innovative mechanism whose purpose is to have complete and objective information from States and learn, first hand, their best practices and possible difficulties in implementing the Convention. In this regard, visits have already been carried out in Brazil, El Salvador, Mexico, Bolivia and Paraguay. In the coming weeks, on-site visits will be carried out in Peru, Costa Rica, Argentina, Trinidad and Tobago and Honduras.
