GUATEMALA VOLUNTEERS TO BE REVIEWED AT THE START OF THE FOURTH ROUND OF REVIEW OF THE OAS ANTI-CORRUPTION MECHANISM

Guatemala has volunteered to be reviewed at the start of the Fourth Round of Review of the Follow-up on Implementation of the Inter-American Convention against Corruption (MESICIC), which will begin in 2012 and include, for the first time and as part of its review process, on-site visits to the States Parties of the MESICIC.

The Central American country officially expressed this interest, taking into account that the Committee of Experts of the MESICIC will consider, at its Nineteenth Meeting (September 12 – 16, 2011), the sequence in which the States Parties to the Mechanism will be reviewed in the framework of the Fourth Round and that the procedure that the Committee has followed in the three previous rounds is to analyze, first, those States that volunteer and then the other States in the chronological order of ratification of the Inter-American Convention against Corruption.

The Technical Secretariat of the MESICIC expects to receive over the coming days similar notifications from other States that have also expressed their interest in being the first ones to be reviewed in the next round of the Mechanism.
