REGIONAL MEETING IN COLOMBIA ON PRIVATE SECTOR RESPONSIBILITY IN THE FIGHT AGAINST CORRUPTION

On March 7 and 8, 2013, Bogotá, Colombia will host a “Regional Meeting on Private Sector Responsibility in the Fight against Corruption”, which seeks to support the implementation of the Inter-American Convention against Corruption and other related international instruments, as well as contribute to the treatment and formulation of concrete recommendations to strengthen hemispheric cooperation in relation to this topic, which has been defined as one of the topics of collective interest in the framework of the Mechanism for Follow-Up on its Implementation (MESICIC). 

This event is being held within the term of office of the Chair of the MESICIC Committee of Experts, Secretary for Transparency from the Office of the President of the Republic of Colombia, Carlos Fernando Galán Pachón.  It has been organized with the support and under the auspices of the OAS General Secretariat, through the Department of Legal Cooperation of the Secretariat for Legal Affairs, which serves as the Technical Secretariat of the MESICIC, as well as the Presidential Agency for Cooperation of Colombia (APC), the European Union Program for the promotion of Social Cohesion in Latin-American (EUROsociAL II), the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), and the Inter-American Development Bank (BID). 

Experts from OAS member States with direct knowledge, experience and responsibilities or involvement in the definition of public policies in the field will participate in this event.  In addition, presenters from different States of the Hemisphere as well as from Europe will discuss a range of topics, including the responsibility of legal persons, the protection of those who report acts of corruption, lists and registers of ethical corporations, and international standards and instruments regarding corporate ethics.

What is the MESICIC?

The Mechanism For Follow-up on the Implementation of the Inter-American Convention against Corruption, known as MESICIC for its Spanish acronym, is a tool to support the development of the Inter-American Convention against Corruption through cooperation between States Parties.
