South American Governments Meet in Chile to Strengthen Cooperation against Cyber-crime

From July 21st through July 23rd, 2009, the Organization of American States, the United States Department of Justice, and the Chilean Public Ministry, held a joint training workshop in Santiago, Chile.  The workshop is one of a series of events held in furtherance of recommendations issued by the REMJA Working Group on Cyber-Crime, and was funded by the United States and focused on the handling of electronic evidence in criminal investigations.

The workshop brought together prosecutors and investigators with responsibilities in the area of cyber-crime from several OAS Member States, including Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, the United States, and Venezuela.  At the close of the three-day workshop, remarks were given by the Chilean Attorney General “Fiscal Nacional”, the Acting United States Ambassador to Chile, and the Chair of the REMJA Working Group on Cyber-Crime.

Between August 25th and August 27th, 2009, another workshop on the handling of electronic evidence in criminal investigations will be held within the framework of the REMJA Working Group on Cyber-Crime, in Panama City, Panama.
