OAS CONVENES MEETING OF THE REMJA GROUP ON CYBER-CRIME

Today, December 18, 2013, the OAS Permanent Council convened the VIII Meeting of the Working Group on Cyber-Crime of the Meetings of Ministers of Justice or Attorneys General of the Americas (REMJA).  This meeting will take place at OAS Headquarters on February 27 and 28, 2014, and will bring together authorities and government experts from the Americas with responsibilities in the area of international legal cooperation against cyber-crime.

The Working Group on Cyber-Crime was created by the REMJA in 1999, in order to serve as a hemispheric forum for strengthening international cooperation in the prevention, investigation and prosecution of cyber-crime; facilitate the exchange of information and experiences among its members; and make the necessary recommendations to enhance and strengthen cooperation among the OAS Member States and with international organizations and mechanisms.

This meeting will give participating government experts the opportunity to share the latest developments in their respective countries, related mainly to the development or enactment of laws on this topic, the establishment or expansion of investigation and / or prosecution units, and the adoption of concrete measures for international cooperation against cyber-crime.
