Mutual Legal Assistance
Mutual legal assistance is governed principally by the Mutual Assistance in Criminal Matters Act, Chapter 140A
of the laws of Barbados. The legislation is applicable to Commonwealth countries and countries with
which Barbados has signed bi-lateral treaties. The Act may also be invoked, under the
principle of reciprocity, in respect of any country which is a party to the 1988 United Nations Convention against
Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances. Requests are
made to the Central Authority who is the Attorney-General.
