AMENDMENT OF ARTICLE 22 OF THE RULES OF PROCEDURE OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY

(Resolution adopted at the eighth plenary session, held on June 7, 1996)

THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY,

HAVING SEEN the Report of the Preparatory Committee of the General Assembly (AG/doc.3346/96), in which a proposal is made to amend the third paragraph of Article 22 of the Rules of Procedure of the General Assembly and attention is drawn to the need to conduct further studies on bringing these Rules of Procedures into line with the new rules in effect in the Organization;

CONSIDERING that said proposal is consistent with the existing rules and, in particular, with the Charter of the Organization as amended by the Protocol of Managua; and

BEARING IN MIND Article 92 of the Rules of Procedure of the General Assembly,

RESOLVES:

1. To take note of the report of the Preparatory Committee of the General Assembly.

2. To amend in part Article 22 of the Rules of Procedure of the General Assembly by changing the wording of the third paragraph from "Second Committee (Economic and Social Matters, and Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Matters)" to "Second Committee (Matters relating to the Partnership for Integral Development)."

3. To instruct the Permanent Council, once it has adopted the Statutes of the Inter-American Council for Integral Development, to conduct the necessary studies to establish whether, as a result of the adoption of the Statutes, new changes will have to be introduced into the Rules of Procedure of the General Assembly, and to present the corresponding report to the General Assembly at its twenty-seventh regular session.
