AG/RES. 1442 (XXVI-O/96)

CONTINUING PARTICIPATION IN THE INTER-AMERICAN COUNCIL FOR INTEGRAL DEVELOPMENT BY MEMBER STATES THAT HAVE NOT RATIFIED THE PROTOCOL OF MANAGUA

(Resolution adopted at the eighth plenary session, held on June 7, 1996)

THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY,

HAVING SEEN resolution AG/RES. 2 (XXII-E/96), "Participation of Member States that Have Not Ratified the Protocol of Managua in the Inter-American Council for Integral Development (CIDI) When Said Protocol Enters into Force," and

CONSIDERING:

That operative paragraph 1 of that resolution states that "the member states of the Organization that have not yet deposited their respective instruments of ratification of the Protocol of Managua may participate in the work and activities of CIDI and its bodies, with the same rights and responsibilities as those member states that have ratified it";

That operative paragraph 2 of that resolution provides that "this resolution shall remain in force until the next regular session of the General Assembly, which will review this situation if at that time there are still member states that have not ratified the Protocol of Managua"; and

That, as of the date of this resolution, not all member states of the Organization of American States have ratified the Protocol of Managua,

RESOLVES:

1. To reaffirm resolution AG/RES. 2 (XXII-E/96) and extend the period during which it will remain in force until the next regular session of the General Assembly, which will review the situation if at that time there are still member states that have not ratified the Protocol of Managua.

2. To urge the member states which have not yet ratified the Protocol of Managua to do so before the next regular session of the General Assembly.
