WORKING GROUP ON THE DEVELOPMENT PROBLEMS OF SMALL STATES OF THE CARIBBEAN SUBREGION(Resolution adopted at the eighth plenary session, held on June 7, 1996)
THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY,
HAVING SEEN the resolution of the Inter-American Council for Integral Development (CIDI) on the Working Group on the Development Problems of Small States of the Caribbean Subregion (CIDI/doc.8/96);
BEARING IN MIND the vulnerability of the member states of the Caribbean and the special circumstances affecting their development, including limited resources, susceptibility to natural disasters, and the adverse impact of external economic conditions;
CONSIDERING that the Charter provides for the equality of opportunity of member states in achieving integral development and the need to focus particular attention on the relatively less developed countries; and
RECOGNIZING that the situation of the member states of the Caribbean requires special attention and consideration within the OAS,
RESOLVES:
To endorse the establishment, within the Inter-American Council for Integral Development of the Working Group on the Development Problems of Small States of the Caribbean Subregion.
