COOPERATION BETWEEN THE ORGANIZATION OF AMERICAN STATES AND THE UNITED NATIONS SYSTEM

(Resolution adopted at the third plenary session, held on June 2, 1998)

THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY,

HAVING SEEN the report of the General Secretariat on the implementation of resolution AG/RES. 1468 (XXVII-O/97), "Cooperation between the Organization of American States and the United Nations System,"

RESOLVES:

1. To reiterate to the Secretary General of the Organization of American States its satisfaction with the technical cooperation activities carried out jointly by the two organizations under the OAS/UN Cooperation Agreement.

2. To express its recognition to the Assistant Secretary General of the Organization of American States for the efficient coordination and the implementation of mechanisms for coordination between the two organizations.

3. To request the Secretary General to continue and strengthen cooperation activities between the two organizations, and to facilitate an increase in intersectoral contact among the persons in charge of the technical areas of the two organizations under the terms of the OAS/UN Cooperation Agreement; and, further, to request him to report on these activities to the General Assembly at its twenty-ninth regular session.
