Washington, D.C. – The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) is set to hold its 183rd Regular Period of Sessions on March 7-18, 2022. The format of this period of sessions will be specified at a later date. It will reflect the IACHR's mandates and role given the worrying situation in the region and around the world due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the health of thousands of people.

From December 29, 2021, in keeping with its Rules of Procedure, the IACHR welcomes requests for public hearings until January 19, 2022, at 11:59 pm (Washington, D.C. time). Requests referring to all Member States of the Organization of American States (OAS) will be accepted. The only tool to file these requests is available in the four official languages of the OAS: SpanishEnglish, Portuguese, and French.

Approved requests will be announced up to one month before the relevant hearings. The hearing schedule will be posted on the IACHR website up to 10 days ahead of the start of this period of sessions.

A principal, autonomous body of the Organization of American States (OAS), the IACHR derives its mandate from the OAS Charter and the American Convention on Human Rights. The Inter-American Commission has a mandate to promote respect for and to defend human rights in the region and acts as a consultative body to the OAS in this area. The Commission is composed of seven independent members who are elected in an individual capacity by the OAS General Assembly and who do not represent their countries of origin or residence.
