For two weeks in October, Washington is the place to see some of the most creative Latin American cinema of today. Through a wide range of stories-whether of mid-life crises, budding love or spirit visitations-the Latin American Film Festival 2000 offers a window into the region's diversity and humanity.

The Cultural Foundation of the Americas is proud to organize this annual event, along with the Association of Ibero-American Cultural Attachés and the American Film Institute. This year's films come from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela, as well as Spain. Along with the screenings, we will also bring some of the region's directors, producers and actors to Washington, D.C., to enrich the discussion about their films.

The Latin American Film Festival 2000 is sponsored through generous donations by the Organization of American States, the Inter-American Development Bank and Sprint. Riggs National Bank is supporting the event by providing printed material. American Airlines, another sponsor, is providing transportation for special guests. The governments of the participating countries, through their embassies in Washington and their national film institutes, also assisted in making this event possible.

I would like to extend my personal thanks to all these sponsors and to the volunteers and friends who have contributed their time and effort. Most of all I thank you, the filmgoer, for the support you demonstrate through your attendance and your enthusiasm.
