Cumbres de
Nuevo León y sobre
Seguridad Hemisférica en
México, compromisos por los que debemos negar refugio a los
corruptos y a quienes les corrompen (...) Nuestros territorios,
con apego a las legislaciones nacionales y las normas
internacionales aplicables, no deben ser utilizados como santuario
(...) debemos impedir con mayor decisión y firmeza que se
arrebaten los fondos para el desarrollo de nuestras naciones a
través de medidas y acciones mucho más efectivas como la
cooperación de nuestros sistemas de fiscalías.

Diminishing Threats will Aid Democratic Development
Remarks by Secretary General of the OAS,
Cesar Gaviria at the
Opening Session of the XXXIV General Assembly of the
OAS
We learned how country's leaders cannot lose all touch with
citizens and how it is essential to practice transparency and
accountability.
Poverty, inequality and social exclusion, are
therefore, the most serious threats and the main challenges to
democracy in the Hemisphere. By and large they stem from the
weakness of government institutions and the poor quality of our
policies.

Combating Corruption
Report by the
OAS Secretariat for Legal Affairs
The Americas want to control and eradicate
corruption. We have to
increase economic, financial and human resources and disseminate our work
further and better (...) This will help each nation to move ahead and address
the call of citizens and public opinion to fight against corruption.
