Small Tourism Enterprise Project

The Inter-Sectoral Unit for Tourism of the Organization of American States announces that the technology component of the Small Tourism Enterprise Project (STEP), in collaboration with Net Corps Americas and Net Corps Canada, will be deploying a new group of volunteers this summer to various small hotels in the Caribbean.

These volunteers are to assist small hoteliers in each country by training them in the new information technologies, whether that implies developing web sites, basic computer training or training in certain business application software.  The Net Corps Americas volunteers will be in the field for six weeks while the Net Corps Canada volunteers will be deployed for a period of 2 months.  The small hoteliers are expected to provide accommodations and meals for the volunteers during their stay at the hotels.

Mr. Karen Hembrough, volunteer from the Net Corps Americas, will be in Belize for 8 weeks starting July 15th, 2002.  Mr. Henry Atherley from the Belize Tourism Board and STEP coordinator in Belize, will support Ms. Hembrough’s assignment.
