- The OAS academic scholarships for undergraduate studies are offered for full time studies in any English-Speaking Caribbean Member States from the OAS Member State, with the exception of the candidate’s sponsoring country.
- The OAS scholarship is awarded for the last two years of study leading to an undergraduate degree (Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent), in universities of the OAS Member States. The studies can be undertaken on-site, online or a combination of both.
- OAS Academic Scholarships are awarded for a maximum of two academic years.
- Candidates must return to reside in the sponsoring country for a period of no less than twenty-four (24) months after completing the program of study covered by the OAS scholarship. Applicants for online studies must agree to remain in the sponsoring country for the same period of time.
- Current OAS staff members, OAS consultants, staff members of the Permanent Missions to the OAS, and their relatives are not eligible for OAS academic scholarships and must wait until six months have elapsed after the termination of the employment or contractual relationship before they may apply for an OAS scholarship.
- The OAS does not award scholarships for studies in the Medical Sciences.
- The OAS will not consider incomplete applications.

TYPES OF SCHOLARSHIPS
Self-placed: Candidates apply directly for admission to the universities or educational institutions of their choice. Eligible candidates must either be:
1. enrolled in the program of study and be eligible to graduate within 2 academic years from the date of the scholarship award, or
2. accepted into the university where he or she plans to study for the last two years of an undergraduate program that leads to a bachelor’s degree. Admission letter must state that the applicant will complete the program of studies within 2 academic years.
For option 2, the transfer of credits process from previous post-secondary education to the host institution is the responsibility of the candidate. If a candidate is selected to receive an OAS scholarship, he or she will need to provide the OAS with an official letter from the host institution attesting to the total number of credits successfully transferred, and the expected graduation date. These requirements must be fulfilled before the scholarship award documents are issued.
OAS-Placed: not available for Undergraduate studies applicants.

OAS academic scholarships have a monetary cap of US $30,000 per academic year, which includes all benefits mentioned below. These scholarships are complementary, which means they are not intended to cover 100% of the grantee’s expenses. Not all scholarships include the same benefits; these are allocated on a case by case basis.
OAS academic scholarships may offer the following benefits:
- Roundtrip ticket.
- Tuition and mandatory fees
- Annual book allowance (US $300 for on campus studies, and US $1000 for online studies)
- Medical insurance. (For on site studies only)
- Monthly subsistence. (For on site studies only). Subsistence varies depending on the country of study. OAS monthly subsistence covers an average of 60% of the grantee’s expenses. Â
NOTE: No benefits will be offered to the grantee’s dependents. |
- Be a citizen or permanent resident from the English or Dutch speaking Caribbean Member State
- Have completed the first two (2) years of the Undergraduate degree, or have an Associate’s degree.
- Show an above average GPA.
- Be in good physical and mental health to successfully complete the program of study.
The ONEs on the Member States could have additional eligibility requirements. Please contact the ONE in your country for more information.

- Online Application
- Copy of the Associate’s Degree diploma, if applicable. For those candidates already enrolled in the bachelor’s program, copy of the high school diploma.
- Copy of the Associate’s degree transcripts, if applicable. For those candidates already enrolled in the Bachelor’s degree program, latest transcripts from the current program of study.
- Three (3) recommendation letters: Preferably 2 from professors, using the OAS Recommendation Form, and 1 from the employer, using the Employer Recommendation Form. If unemployed or never employed, obtain a third from a professor or someone who can inform us about your qualifications as a student or professional. (Use the OAS Recommendation Statement Form). Do not send recommendations from family members.
- Résumé (must not exceed 4 pages). Please do not include diplomas from attended conferences, workshops, etc. Do not send photographs.
- Admission letter if available (only for transfer students)
- Surinamese scholarship applicants can send an unofficial translation in English if documents are in Dutch. An official translation will be required from candidates that result selected for a scholarship.

APPLICATION PROCESS:
- Scan ALL required documents in black and white, medium resolution, in one single file PDF format. The file shouldn’t be larger than 8MB. Upload the PDF file with your online application.
Make sure to upload all the required documents and forms into the online application, because the OAS will NOT receive physical documents or documents send by email. Please do not include additional documents required by the ONE.
- After you submit the application, you will receive an email with the application you filled out in PDF format. Print the application, add the required documents, and submit the package to the ONE in your country. The ONE will pre-select candidates, therefore, make sure to send them all the physical documents required by the OAS and the ONE.
- If you are selected to receive an OAS Scholarship, you must submit a Medical History Form to the OAS Headquarters in Washington DC. All costs associated with complying with the medical examination requirement are the responsibility of the awardees.
- The selection results will be published on our website www.oas.org/scholarships, and also officially communicated to each country’s authorities.
