The Department for Effective Public Management contributes to the promotion and strengthening of the effective exercise of democracy in the region. As indicated in the Inter-American Democratic Charter, effective and transparent public management is a fundamental component for the exercise of democracy. The mission of the Department for Effective Public Management is to contribute to making public institutions in the region more transparent, effective and with mechanisms for citizen participation. Institutional transparency, citizen participation and open and digital government are key to improving the efficient provision of quality public services, preventing corruption, reducing bureaucracy, improving investment and fostering innovation in the region. For this reason, the Department's work focuses on the following areas: open and digital government; innovation in public management; civil identity; and capacity building through the OAS School of Government.

This Department is under the Secretariat for Hemispheric Affairs.
