Eighth Inter-American Meeting of Electoral Management Bodies: "Strengthening Electoral Processes in the Hemisphere"

Montego Bay, Jamaica, September 18-19, 2012

The Department for Electoral Cooperation and Observation (DECO) of the Secretariat of Political Affairs of the Organization of American States (SPA/OAS) and The Electoral Commission of Jamaica host the Eighth Inter-American Meeting of Electoral Management Bodies (EMBs) entitled “Strengthening Electoral Processes in the Hemisphere” to be held in Montego Bay, Jamaica, from September 18 to 19, 2012.

The main objective of this meeting will be to discuss how EMBs may further improve electoral processes in the region, analyzing two principal issues: the role of EMBs in candidate selection processes, and vote counting, data transmission, and preliminary results reporting. These topics will be addressed through two panels that will allow for the exchange of best practices in the Americas.

The organization of this event was made possible thanks to the contributions of the International Cooperation Agency of Canada and the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA).
